When pernod ricard took over seagram s whisky division in 2001 benriach was mothballed but in april of 2004 benriach was sold along with several thousand casks for 5 4million to the south african company infra trading combining their efforts with burn.

The floor maltings were in use again and remained so continuously until 1999. Five years later the floor maltings were mothballed which are only recently being refurbed for a reopening. Due to benriach s focus on distillery expressions and the distinct lack of pre 21st century single malt releases independent bottlings are exceedingly rare. 2013 benriach s floor maltings is reopened.

Pernod ricard bought the distillery in 2001 and by 2002 benriach was once again mothballed. In 2004 a consortium headed by billy walker purchased the distillery and has since saved a forgotten about brand. They fell silent in 1999 when the distillery was owned by chivas brothers who had put the benriach maltings to innovative use at times making significant. At present balvenie is the only mainland distillery making its own malt but that is due to change in the very near future as benriach near elgin is about to re open its floor maltings.

They are the only speyside distillery that still rely entirely on their original floor maltings resulting in a highly characterful whisky so deeply in touch with tradition that both demand and prices are steeply rising.
